P Axis: Personality Syndromes in Adults (Infographic)

Diagnostic systems like the DSM focus on personality disorders based on observable behaviors or symptoms. As a result, they do not take into account the whole person. People’s psychological problems are intertwined with their personality, whether there is a “disorder” or not, and need to be appreciated and understood in that context.

The PDM-2 attempts to address these issues. Specifically, the P Axis (Personality) helps clinicians deepen the understanding of their clients by addressing the meaning and internal experience of different levels of personality organization and personality syndromes.
